How to Stay Productive When Your Workplace is in Flux

Writer: Hannah BecherHannah Becher

How to remain productive in turbulent times? Derailing focus is already a challenge when working in the tech or finance sector.

There's no magic formula, but here are some suggestions:

  1. Find a routine and stick to it as much as possible. Structure your day so that you have dedicated time for different tasks. For instance, I go for a short 15-20 min run every morning and do a 5-minute meditation afterward using an insight timer.

  2. Set realistic goals for what you can accomplish each day, and break them down into smaller, manageable steps. I usually have about 3-4 weekly goals and break them down into 2-3 smaller daily goals. It’s vital to focus on measurable outcomes such as automating a manual country risk assessment to accrue 20% time saved for another team.

  3. Use productivity tools like task lists and timers to help you stay on track. I use Notion for everything and even organize my tasks into the urgent, important, delegate, and later following the Eisenhower Matrix.

Make sure you take breaks and allow yourself time to relax – both. It’s all about managing your energy, not time.

  1. Find a work environment that suits you. Some people need complete silence, others like white noise or music in the background. I have recently started setting up my home office which will have a standing desk, whiteboard, and 2 monitors.

  2. Stay connected with your team and colleagues. Whether it’s regular check-ins, video calls, or messaging, make sure you keep the lines of communication open.
